Opera Can Be Fun!

A cultural resource for the classroom is being assembled and will be available for use by teachers in the area schools.  This “Cultural Suitcase” will contain CDs with opera highlights, videos of productions both onstage and backstage, workbook activities for the students, background books on opera, sketches of opera sets and costumes, and a detailed teacher’s guide.

The featured opera in this year’s “suitcase” will be Gioacchino Rossini’s comic masterpiece, The Barber of Seville.  A history of the opera and its composer as well as plot outline, descriptions of the characters and the artistic staff necessary to produce the work will be included.

Information of this suitcase will be included in the Arts Council of Youngstown and Mahoning County’s 2004-2005 Arts and Our School catalog.  This directory of cultural resources provided by all the not-for-profit arts organizations in our county is distributed to all Mahoning County schools.  The “suitcase” can be reserved by contacting David Vosburgh at .  It will be delivered to the school on a Friday and can be used for one week and will be picked up the following Friday.  There is no charge for this cultural resource.
